OSWALDTWISTLE Immanuel have moved in to top spot in the Ribblesdale League after Settle suffered another shock defeat.

Oswaldtwistle climbed in top spot thanks to a thriller rain-affected, run chase victory over Barnoldswick while defending champions Settle were beaten by Section A side Salesbury - with Sam Bristol taking six wickets including a hat-trick.

Immanuel knew they would go top if they gained more points than Settle however after back-to-back victories, Barnoldswick were looking to make it a hat-trick of wins.

After winning the toss, Oswaldtwistle chose to field and after weather interruptions the game was reduced to 35 overs per side with Barnoldswick scoring 154-5 from their allotted overs.

Amir Saddique top scored with 42 from 71 balls.

After further rains interruptions, Ossie’s reduced target was 105 from 20 overs. The teams went off again for rain in the the ninth over with Ossie on 48-2. With only time for a further 5.4 overs, Oswaldtwistle elected to go for the 57 runs required knowing if they did not succeed Barnoldswick would get the points. And thanks to superb knocks from Danny Metcalf (35 from 33) and Skipper Jack Harrison (48 from 36) they reached their target with just three balls to spare to climb in to top spot.

Settle, who had recently lost two games, were under pressure to keep winning if they wanted to maintain their slender lead at the top of Section A.

And they appeared to be on course for victory when they bowled Salesbury out for 81 in 25.5 overs with only professional Hashen Ramanayake showing any resistance scoring over half of the total with 46 from 53 balls.

The outstanding bowling performance for Settle came from Josh Mullinder with 6-19 from just 4.5 overs. Needing just 82 for victory, the leaders unexpectedly faltered with none of their batsman reaching double figures and were bowled out for 46.

Bristol proved to be the hero for Salesbury as he finished with figures of 6-26 off 6.3 overs while Hashen Ramanayake finished with 4-17.

Feniscowles took on Euxton with both sides looking to climb the table in Section B.

Euxton won the toss and asked Feniscowles to bat first.

And the Blackburn side were soon in trouble at 9-3 in the fourth over when top scorer Henco Murphy was joined by Jake Errey.

Together they steadied the innings and took the score up to 94 when Euxton professional, Haneeq Hassan, trapped Murphy LBW for a very well-constructed top score of 54.

After a 30 minute stoppage for thunder, lightning and rain, the match was reduced to one of 41overs per side Fenniscowles put up little resistance losing their last six wickets for only 21 runs finishing on 115 all out with captain Errey (35) and David Crutchley (14) the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Aneeq Hassan was the pick of the Euxton bowlers with figures of 4- 14 runs from his seven overs.

After the tea interval there was only time for 6.2 overs before the rain returned with Euxton on 27-1. This prolonged break meant that Euxton were set a revised target of 72 off 20 overs.

Play resumed at 6.45pm with Euxton needing a further 45 to win from the remaining 13.4 overs and they reached their target needing only another 9.2 overs.

Oliver Marsden was top scorer with an unbeaten 33 no in a total of 74-4 with veteran spinner, Matt Hope, the pick of the Feniscowles bowlers, taking three wickets for 29 in his eight overs.

The games between Padiham v Whalley, Baxenden v Read, Brinscall v Ribblesdale Wanderers and Earby v Cherry Tree were all rained off.
