Danielle Walker and Eleanor Markendale represented the North of England Under-20s in the Home International Track and Field match at Derby.

The athletes were chosen after winning the Northern Championships earlier this season. Burnley's Danielle was second in the 1500m in 4:51.14 despite sickness and Eleanor, from Pendle, took third in the long jump with 5.21 metres.

The blustery conditions made jumping difficult, but a day earlier she had shown her true form with 5.60metres at the Jumpfest, a women's elite competition at the Northwood Stadium in Stoke.

Becky White, the former Blackburn Harrier, was competing and defied a knee injury to be third with 6.00m.

Meanwhile, at the British Milers Club Nike Grand Prix Final at Manchester Sportcity, Alison Leonard's magnificent season shows no sign of coming to an end.

The Chorley Harrier, who also represents Blackburn Harriers on the track, was named athlete of the meeting. She finished fifth in the women's A' 800m race against senior competition, but was the leading Under-17.

She set a new personal best of 2:06.74 to lower her own mark at the head of the National Rankings List.
