Blackburn Harriers’ senior and U17 men won bronze medals at the North West Counties Road Relays at Blackpool.

Both of Blackburn’s medal winning squads were the leading Lancastrians and there was also county gold for the under 15 girls from Pendle Athletic Club.

Pride of place must go to Blackburn’s senior men, third in the day’s largest field of 43.

Northern 10,000m champion Tom Cornthwaite anchored the team with their quickest time after Paul Bradshaw, Matt Nuttall and Peter Matthews had set up the medal chance. Two Blackburn teams competed in the U17 race. The ‘A’ team acquitted themselves well and were only 30 seconds behind winner St Helens thanks to Chris Matthews, William Worrall and Anthony Hauserman.

Clayton-le-Moors senior women left Stanley Park with county silver after Katie Trickett, Anna Kelly and Tracy Mitchell placed sixth outright.

Pendle enjoyed a profitable day in the younger age bands with Lancashire gold for the U15 girls and bronze for the U13 boys.

Jade Lord, Emily Wilson and Alice Garnett made the top step of the podium as Blackburn’s Daram Darbyshire, Jacinta Davison and Holly Ballantyne took third spot.

Preston Harriers prevented a repeat performance in the U13 boys’ race as Bradley Roscoe, Matthew Dutton and Robert Hurlston lifted silvers.

Blackburn girls took the club’s Lancashire medal count to six with U13 bronze courtesy of Sally Searson, Katie Buckingham and Hannah Dobrashian. Brothers Ryan and Adam Sciacca combined with Ben Ramsey as Chorley AC grabbed county silver behind Preston in the boy’s U15 race.
