Former Blackburn Rovers striker Jemal Johnson could be set to make his Wolves debut against Burnley with Jay Bothroyd facing a race to be fit and Carl Cort suspended.

And Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy, who watched Johnson play 90 minutes in a friendly against Northampton Town this week, was confident the 21-year-old could cause the Clarets some problems.

McCarthy added: "Jemal is very bright and quick.

"He wants to score, he had four or five attempts in a friendly match on Tuesday and I have seen enough of him to know he can be a good player for us.

"As a player I wouldn't have fancied chasing after the little striker running down the flanks like Jemal.

"We'll have to see over the next day or so what we'll decide on for Burnley.

"Jay is still having treatment for his calf problem, so he is a doubt."

Johnson, who made 11 appearances, 10 off the bench, for Rovers, penned a two-year deal on Thursday, added: "I played on Tuesday and I enjoyed that.

"I needed to get my head down and work in the hope of impressing the manager, and that is what I have come here for - to work hard and help the club's push to move up the league.

"I am fit and I have played a good amount of games over the past few weeks so I feel ready to be involved as soon as the manager calls on me.

"I have played on the left hand side a few times, as well as down the right and through the middle.

"I can play pretty much anywhere along the front line."
