Blackburn Rovers are still trying to sign the Dutch defender Andre Ooijer and held further dialogue with PSV Eindhoven yesterday.
The size of the fee remains the sticking point, with Rovers reluctant to meet PSV's £3 million asking price.
"We're still in discussions with PSV but we have to be sensible about that deal," said chairman John Williams.
"We're talking about a 32-year-old who would have been allowed to leave for not much more than £1 million 12 months ago."
