NO one can say that the players, manager and staff have given anything less than their all to get Accrington Stanley back into the Football League.

Their magnificent efforts ended more than three decades in the doldrums for the best known non-league name in the country and brought a huge potential boost for the borough of Hyndburn.

As last season's campaign gained momentum, this newspaper successfully called on people in Accrington and beyond to get behind their team for the final push towards promotion.

And more than 3000 people went through the gates for each of their final two home games.

But this dropped to a little over 2,600 for their first home game in the league last Tuesday - and slumped to 1,639 for their first league win on Saturday against Barnet at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

This hugely disappointing turnout was the lowest in the top three divisions.

Now we reiterate the pleas from Hyndburn Council leader Peter Britcliffe and Hyndburn MP Greg Pope for fans to get out of their armchairs to get behind Stanley.

Accrington and the wider Hyndburn area needs to show what it is made of by rallying to the colours so magnificently raised by the club.

The alternative is to consign this great name once more to the wilderness.
