OUR season starts now! That's the resounding message from Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman after his side recorded their first Football League win in over 44 years.

Romuald Boco was the hero for the Reds as his double secured a much-needed win over Barnet to lift them further up the table.

"Myself and Jimmy (Bell) said our season started on Saturday," Coleman said.

"We told the lads that was our key thing before the game.

"I just don't think we're used to playing 46 games - we're only used to playing 42. Maybe we'll get the next one out of the way and we'll start properly!

"I was more concerned about getting the first goal.

"When Gary Roberts hit the post from three inches I thought 'we're never going to get this goal'.

"Thankfully we did get it and went on to get another, which I think was crucial."

And Coleman believes his side will grow in confidence after breaking their Coca Cola League Two duck.

"It's got to do a lot for confidence," he said.

"We got a little bit nervy towards the end. I think we hit a flat spot and we didn't really pick up from that in the second half.

"We've got to guard against not being scared to win or get nervous about getting the win.

"But now the first one's out of the way I'm sure we can relax more.

"We played some great stuff in patches. If we can keep doing that from now to the end of the season we'll get enough wins."

Meanwhile, Barnet manager Paul Fairclough said he was impressed with the newly-promoted Reds.

"Full credit to Accrington, they're up and running now," said the Bees boss, whose side won the Conference in 2005.

"I would say they are a good, honest football team and deserved to win the game because of their honesty on the pitch.

"That's not to say we were dishonest but their honesty, passion and togetherness shone through for the game."
