KENDAL Town crashed out of the Lancashire Co-operative Challenge Cup as Clitheroe fought back from two goals down to win 3-2 at the Lakeland Radio Stadium.

Despite boss Lee Ashcroft ringing the changes after Saturday's 5-2 defeat to North Ferriby United, Town took a two-goal lead.

Alex Taylor put Town 1-0 up on seven minutes when he capitalised on defensive indecision from Tom Newton's long punt upfield.

With two defenders missing the bounce, Taylor ran through them and headed over Danny McDonald in goal.

And ten minutes later he bagged his and Town's second from a corner.

After the initial ball was cleared, Paul Osbourne headed it back into a packed centre, where Danny Rowe flicked it on for Taylor.

Standing two yards from goal, Taylor swivelled to the left and knocked the ball across goal to McDonald's bottom right corner.

But Clitheroe were handed a lifeline before the break when Alan Coar slotted past Newton at the edge of the box.

Gavin Lee-Elison broke clear in midfield and fed the ball through the centre of defence for Coar to run onto, and with Newton slow to the ball, he calmly stroked it past him into the middle of goal.

Tempers flared before the break when Gary Stopforth and Tom Williams went in on a strong challenge but referee Alan Young calmed the situation without any cards being shown.

After the break Mark Jackson went on the offensive for Clitheroe but spurned several chances in front of goal, with just Newton to beat.

But the visitors were back on level terms on 67 minutes when Newton was adjudged to have taken down Liam McManus on the edge of the six-yard box.

Danny Williams stepped up to fire the ball home, despite Newton getting a foot to it.

And just seven minutes later Mark Jackson got a goal he had been searching for all night when he broke free 20 yards from goal.

With the central defence backing off Jackson unleashed low and hard to the middle of the goal to spark celebrations for the Evo-Stik Division One North side.

Ian Kilford and Shaun Gardner came on for Kendal as they sought an equaliser but the chances came and went without any real threat on the Clitheroe goal.
