ACCRINGTON Stanley have been given permission to field new loan signing Dean Bouzanis in this afternoon’s FA Cup second round tie at home to Barnet – and John Coleman hopes the highly-rated keeper will impress enough at the Crown Ground to stay for the rest of the season.

Stanley boss Coleman this week brought 19-year-old Bouzanis on loan from Liverpool until January 2 and the talented Australia under 23 international keeper has been touted as ‘the next Mark Bosnich’.

Bouzanis, who grew up in Sydney and wants to represent Australia at senior level despite playing for Greece under 19s because of family heritage, was even hailed as the best keeper in the world of his age when he moved to Liverpool at 16.

He featured for Liverpool at Stanley in the Lancashire Senior Cup two seasons ago, but Coleman knows it will be his first forays into first-team football that determine how big a future he has.

“Dean is a good keeper and there are a lot of high hopes for him,” said the Stanley boss, who had only one senior keeper, Ian Dunbavin.

“He will get his chance to push for a first-team place.

“We’ll have to wait and see how he does now, but hopefully we can extend it to the end of the season if things go well.”
