BRIAN Jensen hopes the experiences of Burnley’s marathon promotion-winning campaign will stand them in good stead for a hectic Christmas period.

Saturday’s trip to West Ham United kicks off a run of seven games in a month for the Clarets.

Having had the previous seven fixtures spread out over a period of almost two months, such a packed programme could come as a shock to the system.

But goalkeeper Jensen believes that after playing a total of 61 games last term, the Clarets will be better prepared than most to deal with the rigours of the festive season.

“Christmas time, and all the games we are coming to in December, will be tough, but it will be similar to last year,” said the Danish stopper, who was an ever present last season from the second game onwards.

“We dealt with it last year, so why shouldn’t we be able to deal with it this year?”

Jensen feels draws against top six sides Manchester City and Aston Villa in the last two games have provided a timely confidence boost.

But he warned against complacency ahead of back-to-back trips to clubs at the opposite end of the Premier League spectrum, with struggling West Ham, then rock bottom Portsmouth next on the agenda.

“They are bigger than the other ones,” said Jensen.

“They are the ones we need to keep on our toes.

“They want to be out of the relegation zone and they are not bad sides.

“I don’t think Portsmouth, for example, have had the luck with them and, personally, I think West Ham are good going forward and have been a bit unlucky as well.

“Looking at West Ham on Saturday we need to keep it really, really right and play at least as well as we did against Aston Villa.

“If we do that we know we have a chance, but we know it will be tough.”

However, Jensen admits Burnley have been encouraged by their performances against Manchester City, where they drew 3-3, and Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Villa, despite conceding a late equaliser.

“It just shows what we are capable of,” said the 34-year-old.

“We just need to keep it going now. Aston Villa are one of the best sides going forward.

“We did really well until a few minutes before the end.

“If we can eradicate that a little bit then we have a good chance to get more than a point at a time.”
