I thought Andre Bikey had a good game in our 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa on Saturday, and he is proving wrong the critics who said he couldn’t play in midfield.

If he is playing week in week out, he will be a big loss when goes to represent Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations in January.

But, having said that, Burnley have got options within the squad now and strength in depth. It’s something they can overcome.

And when Chris McCann comes back from his injury it will be very interesting to see what they do in midfield. It will be good to have those options.

It’s hard to say what Owen Coyle will do but they’ve got a few alternatives because Wade Elliott can play on the left or right, and Chris Eagles is versatile.

Wade has done well in central midfield but it wouldn’t be an unfamiliar position to him if he’s asked to play on the right, because he’s used to playing there.

It was another excellent performance on Saturday and I think we were unfortunate to concede a goal in the last five minutes.

Villa were lucky to get a point because we dominated the first half, but it’s probably still a good point. I think if you look at the last two games, Villa and the away game at Manchester City, after both games we weren’t completely happy with a draw and I guess that does show how far we’ve come as a club.

I think Burnley can go to West Ham this weekend now and get something and then we’ve got Portsmouth away the week after, which is another hard game.

But it’s a place we can go and get a result with how things are at Portsmouth at the moment.

It was announced last week that Burnley had made an £8.9m loss last season but, whatever happens now, I’m sure we will make that money back.

Even if we were to go down this season, the parachute payments would be worth £22m.

How much we have to spend in January, we’ll have to wait and see.

There was talk that the defence needed strengthening but they have done really well this season.

And when you look at the strikers we’ve got Jay Rodriguez and Steven Thompson who can come in and do a good job.

We have got strength in depth, then, and I think Burnley are capable of staying up with their current squad.

But sometimes that is when you do need to strengthen - when things are looking quite rosy.
