TWO of our UniBond sides go head to head tomorrow when Rossendale United welcome Chorley in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy.

John Hughes will be hoping his Rossendale side carries on their free-scoring form from midweek when they entertain Chorley.

Rossendale hammered Squires Gate 4-1 in the Challenge Cup and a repeat of that will do very nicely for the Dark Lane outfit.

Manager Hughes knows however, that Chorley are also currently a hot cup side after the Victory Road club reached the third qualifying round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Ashton United.

“It’s an important game for us,” conceded Hughes. “There is good money at stake if you can make progress and of course wins in any competition, also lifts confidence within the side.”

Matty Walsh is doubtful for Rossendale but Jack Brierley recovered from a virus sufficiently enough to come on as a sub and score against Squires Gate and he looks a likely starter.

Chorley boss Steve Waywell has a full squad to choose from and may also include two of the club’s latest additions, Josh Rothwell on loan from Bury and Adam Kozlowski from Clitheroe.

“I’ve got a full squad to choose from. I made changes when we lost at Colne the other night for that reason.

"But after our recent results the pressure will be on us to perform.”
