ACCRINGTON Stanley go into tomorrow’s game at Chesterfield in a positive frame of mind, despite players having to wait a day for their wages this week.

The squad were due to be paid at midnight at the end of the month but had to wait until last night because of the club’s ongoing financial problems.

The club insist, though, that delay did not cause any disruption and 13th-placed Stanley now travel to Saltergate tomorrow hoping to build on four points from their last two games.

Chesterfield leapfrogged Stanley into the top half with a win over Grimsby on Wednesday but the Reds believe they can exploit defensive weaknesses in their opponents.

“They’re good going forward with people like Jack Lester and Wade Small but I think they are vulnerable at the back,” said assistant boss Jimmy Bell.

“We’ll play on the front foot and look to exploit that. That’s the only way we play.”

After the club missed four successive penalties, Phil Edwards took over the responsibility and scored from the spot in Tuesday’s draw at Port Vale.

And boss John Coleman expects the centre back, who now has three goals this season, to continue the duties.

“We’ve had our problems in the past with penalty takers and you’ve got to get someone who wants to take them,” said Coleman.

“Phil assures me that he used to take them for his primary school!”
