A RYAN Shawcross header and Stephen Jordan own goal have left Burnley with work to do in the second half of their Premier League debut.
The Clarets got off to a decent start, with Robbie Blake having two half chances, before they were undone by a softly awarded free kick for Tyrone Mears' challenge on Ricardo Fuller.
Liam Lawrence sent the free kick to the far post, where Shawcross rose unchallenged to plant a header past Brian Jensen on 17 minutes.
Rory Delap then proved his deadly throw had not diminished as he launched the ball into the six-yard box, where Jordan steered it into his own net.
Burnley continued to plug away before the break, and even had penalty appeals turned down when Andy Wilkinson appeared to handle Mears' cross at the far left post.
