DELIGHTED Ramsbottom skipper Keith Webb hailed his side in the wake of their stunning Worsley Cup win over Todmorden on Sunday.

But Webb also admits he feels for losing captain Jon Henderson, who has now been a runner-up three times in since 2005.

“I feel for Tod and can only imagine what it’s like to lose two on the trot and three in five seasons,” he said.

“To be honest, I wish it hadn’t have been Tod in the final but it was a great day for us.

“But I wouldn’t have liked to have been a Tod player having to get in the car and drive back over there after the loss.

“To win the Worsley Cup in such dramatic manner in front of so many people is a brilliant feeling and we certainly celebrated it very well.

“It was a tremendous day with such a big crowd.

“The atmosphere was something else with all the singing and cheering and we had a really good night.

“A few of the lads had booked Monday off work anyway and they deserved it for the win.”

Webb does want Todmorden to succeed, however, and hopes they can lift themselves for a charge towards the Lancashire League title.

“Obviously Haslingden are well up there and looking good,” he said.

“But Todmorden are in the mix chasing them down and I would love to see them pick up some silverware.”

The win was largely down to David Bell, who was named as the Lancashire Telegraph man of the match for his knock of 71 that helped Ramsbottom get up beyond 180.

“David batted really well,” added Webb.

“He was the reason we could set a decent target and then we did the business with the bat and ball.

“When we were 44-4 it looked a bit grim but we turned it around really well.”

Bell, whose brother Alex was also a member of the team, was delighted with the win and his award, although he was keen to pay tribute to Andy Holt, who shared a 110-run stand for the fifth wicket to boost the home side when the day could easily have gone flat.

“We were struggling, certainly early on,” he said.

“But we stuck at it and we knew we had the chance to push on when Tod used their fifth bowler.

“They had been hit by injury and we had that chance to kick on and take advantage.

“I suppose the stand between Holty and me was the key.

“But Tod bowled really well and they are a fine side.

“We knew that before the game. They are a good side, we knew that before the game but we stuck in and stuck at it.

“It is special to win in front of a crowd like that and It was a tremendous feeling.”

“It was a great day; absolute magic.”
