ON-LOAN Adam Kay is hoping to use his spell at Accrington Stanley to earn himself a new deal with Burnley.

The 19-year-old has not broken into the Clarets side since graduating from the youth team last summer, and after only penning a one-year contract admits his Turf Moor future is uncertain.

But having seen Jay Rodriguez benefit from a loan move to Stirling Albion last term, and make strong claims for a first team place this year with five goals from the bench, Kay is aiming to follow a similar path.

“The gaffer just told me to come here, try to do well and we’ll take it from there,” said the young midfielder.

“I’m in the same boat as Jay was last year. When he came back from his loan he did well and obviously got his chance in the first team and he’s taken it.

“Hopefully I can do well here, stay on at Burnley next year and then try to push my way into the 16.

“It’s been a learning curve for me this year because I’ve trained with a lot of quality players at Burnley; I’ve been to a lot of good places like Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

"It’s been a good experience but now I’ve got to push on.

“It’s there for me. If I do well I’ll get playing. The gaffer’s shown that with Alex (MacDonald) and Jay - Chris McCann and Kyle Lafferty before that - all the younger ones who’ve come through.

"If I play well enough to get there then hopefully I will.

“Even the lads coming through now are all good players.

"It’s a club that will bring through young players if you’re good enough, so it’s good for me to be around Burnley at this time.”

Kay added: “I’m just trying to get some league experience now.

“The manager and the lads at Accrington are all very positive about the way I train and have said to just bide my time.

“All the lads have been good with me.

“I played with Chris (Turner) when I was younger at Burnley, and there are some good players here, so it’s good for me really.”

And Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell admitted Kay had a lot to offer.

“He’s a strong lad, very good on the ball and technically very good. He’s got excellent awareness as well,” he said.

“It’s just difficult for him at the moment because of the run we’re on.

"Andy Procter and Jimmy Ryan have done really well together in central midfield, and we’ve got John Mullin there as well.

“We brought Adam in to strengthen the squad for the run-in. He looks a quality player and he gives us options.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him play for Accrington.”
