COLIN Murdock insists John Coleman deserves the League Two manager of the month award after Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Rotherham United completed Accrington Stanley’s most successful month for 51 years.

Stanley’s record of four wins and two draws from seven matches in March is their best in the Football League since April 1958, and that run has proved crucial in guiding the club away from relegation trouble and into 16th place.

Lee Richardson has led play-off chasing Chesterfield to 17 points from eight matches, with one still to play, while Luton’s Mick Harford and Rotherham’s Mark Robins are also in contention, but Murdock is backing Coleman to win the award for the first time.

The Stanley defender said: "Having not lost a game in six matches and with the team playing especially well, I think he does deserve that accolade.

"It would be nice for him to get some recognition for his efforts here."
