Charlie Mulgrew remains a doubt with the Rovers skipper yet to return to full training.
Mulgrew, struggling with a hamstring injury, has missed the last three matches, and despite being out on the training pitches doing fitness work, he's yet to take part in full sessions.
Derrick Williams (calf) is expected to be back in the squad, though Jack Rodwell is likely to keep his place alongside Darragh Lenihan in the heart of the Rovers defence should Mulgrew be unavailable.
Of Mulgrew, Mowbray said: “He did the warm-up with the team and then went and did his individual drills.
“He’s building-up, whether he will join in with the team (on Friday) we will wait and see.
“We will give him every chance of course, but it’s not at the forefront of my mind at the moment.
“The team is functioning well, we just have to keep it going against a team in really good form.”
Mowbray hopes a seven-day build up to the game can see Rovers hit their usual intensity levels against the Tigers, with the boss having felt they were off the pace at times against Ipswich last weekend, despite the win.
“That’s what this week has been about,” he said.
“On the back of extra-time against Newcastle, as I said after the Ipswich game, I thought the intensity levels were down.
“While it didn’t cost us any points, it could have done, but then there are no excuses this weekend.
“We will look to get a performance and Hull will have to be at their best to come here and get a result.
“It should be a really good game and I hope the fans recognise the importance of this game and we get decent numbers in the crowd.”
