CHORLEY manager Jamie Vermiglio wants his side to remain at the top of the league as they enter the second half of the season.

Tuesday's 4-0 win over FC United moved Chorley back to the top and left them with a top point lead over second.

Vermiglio was happy with how his side lifted themselves and got the win they needed.

"I think if we stay there or there abouts until the last five or six games then that is what you want.

"To look at it after Christmas and have a two point advantage is great, it's a real achievement for us.

"We know we're working above our resources and we know that we've got a strong side outside the team as well." Vermiglio added.

The Chorley manager was pleased to come through a busy Christmas period.

"It's tough when you play back to back games against a team like FC United, over the New Year and Christmas period you just want to pick up as many points as you can and today we've done that.

"They didn't make it easy for us, we were a bit flat to be honest.

"The first 20 minutes we started quite well and put a lot of pressure on them but then something changed in the game and we weren't 100%," highlighted Vermiglio.

A second half sending off for the visitors swung the game in Chorley's favour.

"Second half, the sending off probably changed the game a little bit and gave us a bit of a lift and we got the goal soon after.

"We scored at the right times and I think they were a bit unlucky with the sending off, it was certainly a yellow card the tackle but I think the young lad's had one in the first half that possibly wasn't. "They'll see themselves a bit unfortunate but you can only go and beat what's in front of you, if they go down to 10 men then we've just got to put our foot on the gas and we did that.

"We made a couple of changes and kept pushing them back and it had a good impact on the game.

"There was not much atmosphere in here today despite the large crowd. We had to score and create our own atmosphere and roll our sleeves up a little bit and get each other going.

"You've got to push on to get that extra yard and extra advantage."
