Tony Mowbray has called for patience from the stands as Rovers prepare to face a ‘disciplined and organised’ Birmingham City side at Ewood Park tomorrow.

Rovers are chasing a fourth win in five home matches against the Blues as they look to maintain their proud home record at Ewood Park.

Garry Monk’s side had to wait until their ninth Championship fixture before recording their first win, but after a spate of draws, have become one of the division’s form sides.

They sit level on points with Rovers, but two places higher in ninth courtesy of a better goal difference, and operate with a 4-4-2 style which leaves them strong at both ends of the pitch.

“This is a dangerous game for us,” Mowbray said.

“They have a system of play, they get the ball forward pretty quickly up to their centre forwards, and they are very disciplined and organised behind the ball.

“I think they had a difficult start.

“They drew a lot of games and have had a good run of late winning football matches.

“Garry is an experienced manager, he’s got them well organised.

“It will be a difficult day, one where I might ask for a bit of patience from the fans because it’s difficult to break them down.

“But hopefully at the end of 90 minutes hopefully we’ve created enough chances to get the points.”

Rovers were back to their best against Sheffield Wednesday at Ewood two weeks ago, winning 4-2 courtesy of a Danny Graham hat-trick.

An impressive run of home form, which has seen Rovers lose just once in 15 months, is something Mowbray believes his side should take pride in. And because of that, he’s keen to see it continue against the Blues, but believes a similar performance to that against Wednesday will be required.

“As I’ve said in the past I think we need to play at our maximum in every game and if we are then we can be a match for anyone,” the boss said.

“If we step off that then we can also lose any game as well.

“The bar has been set, we were back to where we were against Sheffield Wednesday at home, and there was lots of good stuff last weekend as well and maintained our standards.

“We should be proud of our home record and put it out there every time we got there at Ewood for teams to try and knock us off our perch of what we have managed to achieve at home.

“Birmingham City are the next challenge and we will go in to that positive and go and try and get the points.”

He added: “I’m only thinking about keeping the players fit, motivated and driven for what is a tough fixture list in front of us.”
