Lancashire Day passed on Friday with a flurry of events in Nelson and Darwen and little happening elsewhere.

In Lancashire we have a lot to be proud of and those who work so hard every November 27 to celebrate the county deserve to be praised.

It is such a shame that little more is made of the occasion.

Here at the Lancashire Telegraph, we would be more than happy to get behind hundreds of events across our proud county to showcase the things that make this part of the world so special.

We have some of the finest scenery in the country, some of the most hospitable pubs and restaurants and a reputation for wonderful food and drink.

Lancashire has a fine industrial past and many wonderful traditions and of course Lancastrians can’t be beaten for their down to earth and warm personalities.

On top of that, our communities are a rich tapestry of multi-culturalism, something which we should all rejoice in.

Lancashire Day is an event that could really capture the imaginations of the people who live here and has the potential to be much bigger than it currently is.

In the coming years, let’s see a lot more celebration.

After all, and forget what that other lot over the Pennines would make us believe, this is England’s number one county!
