WITH reference to the story about the return of the stag's head to Stubbylee Hall.

Like Arnold Barcroft, I also have many memories of the Stag's Head at Stubbylee.

My grandfather George Crane was the mayor's attendant at Bacup in the early 1940s.

My parents lived with my grandparents at Stubbylee Hall and I was born there in 1940.

Some of my earliest memories are of being scared of the head and trying to run away from it.

As a Bacupian, I am very proud of our heritage and tradition.

Bacup is a fine town with a great industrial history which attracted people from many parts of the UK to come to Bacup and build a new life for themselves and their families on the back of manufacturing, coal mining and quarrying.

When Bacup became part of Rossendale, it seemed to me it was losing part of its identity, council, mayoral tradition etc, very sad for what is a very fine town.
