The development of a supermarket at Wyre Street in Padiham may bring welcome regeneration to the town, but the involvement of Tesco is not.
Tesco are now building an unwelcome domination of shopping within the town.
I hope the council is not taken in by useless environmental gimmicks and has enough sense to refuse this particular application or at the very least call for an OFT investigation.
At the very least Tesco should be forced to either give up either their store in Burnley or their local stores if this proposal is accepted.
The smaller Co-operative group already had to do this when they took over Somerfield, so the precedent has been set.
