The North West is among the top three worst offenders for fly-tipping by householders, according to new research.
The data from the national fly-tipping database, Flycapture, highlights that this type of fly-tipping is costing local authorities as much to clear up as rubbish dumped by organised waste criminals.
Piles of black bin bags, old sofas and TVs are the main problem as they have become commonplace at the end of streets and in country lanes, and are now costing local authorities in the North West in excess of £8.7million to clear up every month.
Over 12,000 incidents per month alone were reported during the research period, 61per cent involving household waste.
