A MAN was stabbed in a street fight in Pendle following a row over barking dogs, it was claimed today.

As reported in yesterday's Lancashire Telegraph two men were taken to hospital after a fight started in Bold Street, Colne, on Tuesday evening.

It has been alleged one of the men, who have not been named, stabbed the other in the right arm during the melee.

Police launched an investigation following the incident which happened at about 9.10pm.

And today police revealed they believed the rumpus started after one of the men took his dog for a late-night walk.

More details were today released about the fight which started when one of the men and his girlfriend were walking home with their dog, police said.

Police said the man who was stabbed came out of his house when his dog started barking at the other animal. The men then became embroiled in an argument. One man was stabbed in his upper right arm before he was punched in the mouth in retaliation.

The knifeman was knocked unconscious but later came round in the ambulance, police added.

A police spokesman said: "A man was walking home with a female and their dog when an argument started with another man when his dog started barking.

"One proceeded to stab the other in the upper right arm, who then punched his foe in the mouth."

Both men were taken to Burnley General Hospital following the incident. Their injuries were not serious and both were later discharged.

Officers were today continuing to probe the alleged stabbing.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
