The summer schools are being run by business charity Young Enterprise.

The Enterprise Summer Schools will give 14 to 16-year-olds the chance to learn about business and commerce, directly from business volunteers.

The schools will also focus on individual development of qualities for enterprise such as problem solving, decision-making management and leadership.

Spirit Summer School, in Newby Bridge, is the first school which starts today and students will take part in canoeing, obstacle courses and football coaching.

They will be building on team working, group decision-making skills and will attend classes on launching and marketing a social enterprise.

The second school, Challenge, is being held from August 28 until September 1 in Coniston where the students from other parts of Lancashire and Manchester will visit British Nuclear Fuels site at Sellafield.

Sessions will include environmental awareness activities, kayaking, sailing and canoeing, improving presentation skills and how to put together a SWOT analysis - a formula used to determine strengths and weaknesses of a situation.
