POLICE are probing claims a shop assistant was beaten unconscious and tied up during a raid at a shop in Nelson.
The victim claimed three men burst in to the newsagents in Carr Road before attacking him and tying him up before fleeing with a quantity of cigarettes.
The robbery allegedly happened at about 3.30pm on Sunday but the victim was only discovered at 5pm when a woman passer by saw the man slumped on the floor, police said.
The 25-year-old was taken to Burnley General Hospital but police said his injuries were not life threatening.
The shop was yesterday sealed off while detectives and forensic experts carried out investigations.
Police were due to talk to the victim to establish more details surrounding the robbery.
