Electoral registration forms are about to be delivered to every home in Burnley.

And the town hall urges residents to check that the details on the form are correct and return it as soon as possible.

Borough leader Coun Gordon Birtwistle said: "The forms are quick and easy to complete and no stamp is required.

"It is very important that you complete and return the form, otherwise you may lose your right to vote as the forms are used to compile the electoral register for next year's elections." The register is a list of all the residents in the borough who are eligible to vote and it is compiled on annually.

Residents are required by law to return the form for their property.

As well as loss of right to vote, failure to complete the form could also lead to difficulties obtaining credit or opening a bank account.

Residents who do not receive a form by the end of September, or those who need help in completing it, should contact the council's elections office on 01282 477261.
