A DEAD badger was dumped in a skip in a Burnley street.

Police wildlife officers have now launched an investigation after the discovery was reported at about noon on Saturday.

A woman was walking in Hobart Street when she saw the animal lying in the skip.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said the street was normally full of children playing out.

She said: "I was walking past and I thought it was a bit of clothing in the skip then I looked and it was a badger.

"It's appalling somebody would do this. There were all teeth marks down its side."

A police spokeswoman said the council had to take the animal away because of its protected status.

She said: "We have had a report a dead badger in the skip.

"The incident has been passed to a wildlife officer who will make inquiries."
