Workmen spent several hours repairing a burst pipe which flooded a Bacup street.

The incident happened in Pennine Road at about 6.30pm on Friday.

Workers from United Utilities had been working in the road earlier that day and the pipe burst after they left.

Residents claimed the water covered the road surface and was about ankle deep.

Anthony Ashworth, 31, said workmen spent about three hours repairing the burst pipe.

He said: "The water was quite deep and I would it was probably up to the ankles.

"The police told me and a neighbour to move our cars.

"Luckily there were no accidents."

United Utilities was unavailable for comment.
