Lancashire families are having to take out loans to meet the cost of private education, a survey found.
A study by Sainsbury's found parents' expenditure on education fees has increased by almost 15 per cent since 2001/02.
It meant households in the North West spent an average £208 for school fees between 2002/3 - 2004/5 and Sainsbury's said the increase coincided with a 38 per cent rise in loan applications.
