A GROUP of iron-stomached bobbies who got their running shoes on beefed up the coffers of an East Lancashire charity to the tune of £1,200.

Fifteen officers took up the meaty challenge of running round the dozen Oddies bakery shops in Burnley and Pendle, stopping off for a pie in each, to raise money for Pendleside Hospice.

The group ran the sixteen miles to visit all 12 Oddies shops in the Burnley and Pendle area.

They started at the Colne shop and finished at Oddies' newest shop at Pike Hill, Burnley

The run was part of Oddies centenary celebrations and marked the official opening of its 12th store in the area in Brownside Road.

Some of those delicious delicacies scoffed included steak pies, fisherman's pasty and beef patties.

The idea followed a few beers at Burnley Rugby Club between some of the officers and bakery boss Bill Oddie.

Hospice fundraising manager Mrs Kaye Bartle said: "We congratulate Oddies in their centenary year and thank them wholeheartedly for their continuing support towards the work that we do with the people of Burnley and Pendle."

Based at Pendleside, Reedley, the hospice provides care to local people suffering from cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
