FAMILIES with a disabled child in Pendle are to get extra help in converting their homes.
Pendle Council is the first authority in England to pay for the costs of adapting homes for youngsters with disabilities.
Coun Sonia Robinson, the council's executive member for urban renewal, said: "Adaptat-ions to a home for a child with a disability can be very complicated and expensive.
"Many parents cannot afford to pay their share of the cost under the rules of the Disabled Facilities Grant scheme.
"Councillors felt that we could help a small number of families if we offered to pay parents' share of the costs under the scheme."
