MP Janet Anderson has welcomed news that housing regeneration cash will fund a GCSE in construction at Accrington and Rossendale College.
Elevate's Constructing the Future programme funds training to ensure local people have the skills to take advantage of the new jobs being created by housing market renewal.
The new GCSE is a double award aimed at Year 10 starters.
Students will learn about the construction industry, building design and surveying, gaining practical experience.
Mrs Anderson said: "I am delighted. There is a serious shortage in this discipline and those who choose it can expect never to be out of work."
