"Luckily they all survived but the village has been totally destroyed.

"Entire generations have been wiped out in an instant.

"I wanted to raise as much money as possible in a short space of time for the relief effort."

The number plate H AS1F was bought by the businessman some years ago.

It remains a highly sought after number plate within the Asian community and the man, hopes to raise in excess of £10,000.

He said: "I know this number plate will be very popular if I was to auction it but I intend to raise more by selling it privately.

"It was given to me as a present but I think the money it would raise would be put to much better use.

"After all it is only a numberplate.

"I am sure there are many people out there who have been looking for such a number plate and would be willing to dig deep.

"All the money raised will be going to charity.
