A DAD of four ended a Father's Day family outing by attacking the mother of his children while the youngsters were in the house.

Drunken Martin McGranaghan, 30, punched his frightened victim Joanne Cullen in the face after she reminded him of his responsibilities.

She was injured and was still suffering from her injuries some time afterwards, Burnley magistrates heard.

The defendant, of Cog Street, Burnley, admitted assault by beating. He was bailed to January 12 for a pre-sentence report.

David Macro, prosecuting, said the defendant took three of the children out and returned about 6.30pm. Miss Cullen arrived home with the other youngster to find two children watching television and the other asleep.

The defendant was asleep, smelled of alcohol and she woke him. McGranaghan did not know where he was and Miss Cullen was upset and reminded him of his responsibilties.

Mr Macro said the pair started rowing and he punched her.

Nick Cassidy, defending, said McGranaghan was greatly upset and angered by what he was told. He had been drinking and accepted he assaulted Miss Cullen.
