A CHARITY group which provides second-hand furniture to families in need has received a big lottery boost.
A £65,280 grant from the Community Recycling and Economic Development Programme means Blackburn with Darwen Churches Action can employ a white goods workshop manager at its Darwen base.
The expansion of the Darwen operation will bring a more comprehensive service to the community, supporting local training for disadvantaged people in skills such as repairing and refurbishing cookers, washers and small electrical items for reuse by clients
Fred Milligan, general manager, said: "By increasing the amount and range of items being recycled and reused, the project will not only be reducing landfill but will also be offering quality items to families coping with disadvantage."
The BDCA welcomes donations of furniture, household goods and bedding.
