A MOTORIST whose drunken driving cost the life of a motorcyclist deserved every day of his seven-year jail term, the Appeal Court ruled.

Shaun Unsworth, 21, who had shown no remorse for his crime, was jailed after pleading guilty to causing 38-year-old Philip Taylor's death by dangerous driving when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court in August last year.

Unsworth, of Aniline Street, Chorley, had also pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving while banned, and a separate offence of arson.

The driving tragedy occurred in Wigan in February last year, when Unsworth was on bail for the arson offence and got behind the wheel of a a stolen car while drunk.

Mr Taylor, was negotiating a junction on his 600cc motorbike when Unsworth shot through red lights and cannoned into him. Mr Taylor suffered fatal multiple injuries.

Judge Michael Brodrick said witnesses saw the car driven at excessive speeds and on the wrong side of the road.

Judge Brodrick said the seven-year sentence was severe, but "not arguably manifestly excessive".
