A sparkling team performance saw Hoppers clock up their biggest ever away league points total.

The home side were outplayed up front and Hoppers' backs took full advantage, running in seven tries while skipper Rich Morton grabbed two from pushover scrums.

Paul Bailey quickly put the visitors six points up with penalties in the first and fourth minute and fast hands in the backs put South African centre Apie Pietersen in for his first Hoppers' try, converted by Bailey. The one serious defensive lapse let in home centre Murray for a try converted by Dean but alarm bells rang for only a few minutes.

The pressure on the pack resulted in New Brighton's flanker Harris ending up in the sin bin for killing the ball and Hoppers made full use of the advantage.

First clean ball from the tight saw Viney score a converted try then Morton claimed two touchdowns at the base of the scrum, one converted by Bailey who then, with half time looming, kicked his third penalty.

But Hoppers still had time for Viney to race in from halfway for his second try and Bailey's conversion made it 42-7 at the break.

Hoppers took some time to get going again and the first 15 minutes of the second period produced some scrappy play and no points but in the 57th minute they got their act back together and the forwards provided the platform for winger Will Hughes to touch down.

A second try minutes later was ruled out for a foot in touch but Hughes got his second try with a well-worked set move from the backs and Bailey's conversions posted the half century.

More fluid back play then resulted in Viney's third try and one for replacement O'Toole in the last move of the match.

Bailey's last kick was just short but his seven conversions and three penalties gave him a personal haul of 23 points.

Hoppers move up to second behind unbeaten Nuneaton whom they entertain at Lightfoot Green on Saturday.
