Having read your article Patients Records to go National, Citizen, October 20, I advise the public to check if their hospital records still exist.
I only found out last year that my hospital medical notes had been shredded.
This information caused me great stress as I was due to go for yet more surgery and because of my many surgical procedures in the past, allergies and haemorrhaging, there was some doubt about a certain anaesthetics used. After various phone calls and written complaints to different hospitals where I had received treatment, I came to a full stop with the end result that I was told 'government guidelines are that after eight years with no hospital visit, records can be destroyed'.
I have twice written to my MP but as yet have had no reply.
