North End boss Billy Davies has backed keeper Andrew Lonergan to make a complete recovery after suffering a second injury to his knee.

Lonergan's knee collapsed during training at Wycombe, where he has been on loan as he completes his recovery from a separate cruciate knee injury which has kept him out of action since February.

The club has now been told Lonergan could be out of for the rest of the season.

Davies said: "We've been told there's a one in a million chance of this injury occuring, and he's obviously taken it hard.

"We're all devastated for him but we will all be supporting back. We know he can do it. He's shown that once already, and I know he can do it again."

Lonergan's injury means Carlo Nash can expect to retain the number one position until the end of the season, with Gavin Ward in reserve.
