THE Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen today appealed to local people to back the annual Poppy Appeal.
Coun Yusuf Jan-Virmani also called for people to help the Royal British Legion carry on its good work.
He said: "It exists not only to help servicemen affected by both world wars, but also those injured or traumatised in more recent conflicts across the world. There is also an urgent plea for volunteers because each year the veterans become older.
"We should support the poppy appeal because it is a way of saying thank you to those who, 60 years ago, helped win the freedom we enjoy today."
Anyone wanting to help should call 0800 0855921.
