Burnley Reserves fell to their first defeat of the season - a thumping 7-1 to Blackpool - on a farcical night at the seaside last night.

Ali Akbar had given the Clarets an early lead before Pool hit back to lead through two goals from first team striker John Murphy.

Sean Paterson made it three soon after before a blatant dive by the Seasiders player earned a penalty that resulted in distraught keeper Mark Crossley being sent off.

Marc Pugh, who has 14 goals this season, went between the posts only to be beaten from the spot - and Pool took advantage of the disarray in the visitors' ranks by adding a fifth goal before the break through Paterson.

At this point, Blackpool chose to withdraw two players and only bring on only one substitute in sympathy at the ridiculous first half dismissal.

However, after Tony Butler had made it 6-1 the referee sent off Pool's Kevin Brown for a bad foul, leading to the incredible sight of Blackpool introducing a 'replacement' to again make the numbers 10 v 10.

By this stage, all credibility was long gone and it mattered little when Tommy Wright completed the scoring from 40 yards
