RE the letter concerning the building of apartments on the former bowling green at the Liberal Club, Darwen.
The club has no other use for this land and it is becoming an eyesore. Moreover, this is clearly a people-first development, and local people at that.
Can anyone be so totally ignorant of the current dire need for affordable, convenient housing?
These properties will be in easy reach of a bus stop and thus reduce need for car use. I wonder if this objector uses the buses in preference to the car?
Well-designed apartments can be just as attractive as houses and anyone doubting this need only look at the smart, modern development at the bottom of Earnsdale Road.
I have to assume that your correspondent does not have a young son or daughter desperate to get on the housing ladder or an elderly mum or dad eager to exchange a large family house for a more manageable and convenient home.
He or she needs the imagination and generosity of spirit to recognise these needs.
Shame on you Mr or Ms Anonymous!
EUNICE RICHARDS (Mrs), Earnsdale Road, Darwen.
