BURNLEY at home to Hull City will always be a nostalgic occasion. It's a decade ago that they were the visitors for the last game before the famous old Longside terrace was demolished.

And for someone like me, who started my career at Hull, it's a special walk down memory lane.

I remember the days I first joined them as a wet-behind-the-ears 16-year-old YTS after being released by Burnley.

They made my life hell. There were 12 lads from Hull and little old me, all vying for two places as a full-time professional, so guess who was targeted?

Nearly every day I had my sarnies snatched and there was once an incident with an apple that I'm still trying to erase from the memory!

I was constantly shunned and slaughtered for my weird accent, but eventually I was grudgingly accepted and went on to win one of the two places.

The tale didn't end there though.

Burnley fans will probably remember Les Thompson as a chubby full back, but in those days he was keeping me out of the Hull side as a striker - probably because his physique made it more difficult for defenders to get round him!

I had the last laugh though, scoring 55 times in 116 league starts and I still have a great affection for the club.

I even had some visitors from the club a few weeks ago wanting to interview me for a DVD for a monthly club magazine.

Not that all this back-slapping means I'll be hoping for an honourable draw on Friday when the Sky cameras turn up at Turf Moor for the first time this season.

Two defeats in three games means we need to get back to winning ways, especially with Millwall next up at home next Tuesday.

The Championship remains tight and the season could still swing either way, so it's imperative that our home form keeps us at arms length from the stragglers.

Back to back home wins and I think we'll all be breathing a little bit easier.
