BURNLEY College has scooped a national award for its investment in training in a prestigious ceremony.

The college was one of the winners in the National Training Awards regional ceremony for the North West which took place at St George's Hall, Liverpool.

Those honoured were selected for their outstanding achievements in workplace training and personal development.

Lancashire County Council also received an award in the North West training award category for its Social Services Directorate.

The awards, which are in their 19th year, are run by UK Skills on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills, with both organisations and individuals eligible to enter.

They are often viewed as a barometer of the UK's changing attitudes to training.

Winners will attend a gala ceremony at the Guildhall in London on November 29, where UK Special Awards will be made.
