A LANDLORD and landlady are quitting after a large-scale fight in their pub left them saying "enough is enough."

Samantha and David Walsh, of the Brownhill Arms, said they made their decision after the incident, which resulted in seven people being arrested.

One woman suffered head injuries after she was glassed during the disturbance, on Sunday.

Mother-of-one Samantha said she did not want to spend another night at the pub for fear of what might happen to her family.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the fight at the Whalley New Road pub at about 10pm.

The couple have run the pub for the last three years after meeting when they worked as quality controllers in Blackburn.

Samantha said she could not allow her 14-year-old daughter, Paris to live there anymore. She said: "We cannot take it. There have not been many incidents but Sunday was enough on its own to make us want to get out.

"You work hard to make a go of things and this is the thanks you get. I can't wait to leave. I've had enough.

"I have got to think about Paris. She does not need to grow up with things like this -- it was like Beirut on Sunday.

"I didn't see very much. We were too scared to come out of the pool room.

"There's much more to life than this. I think the brewery are hoping we will change our minds but that is just not going to happen.

"It's a real shame because we have made some good friends here and had some good times. But it's over."

The family will move into a house they originally bought as a project to renovate and rent until they decide what to do next.

According to the couple's contract, they have to wait until another landlord agrees to move into the Thwaites-owned pub before they can leave.

Sergeant Geoff Bromley at Blackburn CID said: "A fight seems to have broken out when a man and woman were arguing and others have then joined in.

"The bar was full at the time so there will be lots of witnesses who we need to hear from.

"One woman was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary where she was treated for head injuries after being hit with a glass."

Five people were given fixed penalty notices after being arrested for public order offences. Two others were arrested for alleged assault and bailed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Dan Perkins at Blackburn CID on 01254 353569.

A spokesman for Thwaites said: "We can confirm the tenants at the Brownhill Arms have decided to hand in their notice at the pub.

"As part of our policy, we can't comment on their reasons for wanting to leave but we wish them all the best in the future."
