A DIE-HARD Burnley fan who was hit in the face by a football during a match has dropped her case against her favourite club.

The case, brought by Jean Mills, was thought to be the first of its kind in British football but will not be pursued because there is no video footage of the ball hitting her.

A Clarets spokesman said the club had not received any information about the case and declined to comment further.

Mrs Mills, of Woodend Road, Burnley, is known as 'Rockette' among fellow fans because she is married to "number one fan" Derek 'Rocky' Mills, who has supported the club for 47 years.

She claims the ball struck her in the eye during a pre-season friendly against Malaga at Turf Moor on June 23.

Mrs Mills said she suffered from headaches and impaired vision and at one stage thought she was going blind.

Today Mrs Mills said she was disappointed the club had still not apologised for her injuries but said she was never in it for the money and would continue to go to matches.

Mrs Mills said: "We couldn't get a film of the ball so we didn't have any evidence. All I wanted was an apology. I didn't want money or anything.

"If you fell down my stairs and broke your leg I'd come and visit you in hospital and bring you flowers.

"I haven't heard anything from the club. I am disappointed. It's bad manners.

"I still get trouble with my eye, the problem hasn't gone away."

But she added: "We're still going to the matches. We went to Leicester on Tuesday and Crystal Palace on Saturday. I still love my football."

Today ex-Clarets striker and Evening Telegraph columnist Andy Lochhead welcomed the news.

He said: "I don't think there was a case to answer really. Rightly, she's decided not to follow it through.

"I'm relieved. The last thing the club needs is a lawsuit hanging around and losing any amount of money. She's made the right decision."
