THE spotlight shone on faithful school crossing patrollers when their road safety work was recognised at an awards ceremony.

Deputy Mayor of Wigan Councillor John Hilton and cabinet member for the environment Cllr Lynne Liptrot joined Wigan Road Safety Unit boss Julie Winderler in rewarding them at the Mill at the Pier ceremony.

Gold award for 20 years service went to Barbara Mary Price and Florrie Moore received a special award for her 30 years on patrol.

Silver awards for 15 years went to: Susan Elizabeth Watts, Catherine Pownall, Linda Marsh, Lily Ormesher, Angela Green and Jean Southworth.

Bronze (10 years): Anne Cayzer, Lilian Daley, Susan Davies, Sheila Robson, Norma Taylor, Mary Purcell, Marjorie Alice Salsbury, Carol Ann Marcham, Sandra Monaghan, Annie Sherrington, Brenda Scurr, Jean Heaton and Sandra Loynd.
