I URGE everyone who is trying to work out how anyone can enjoy fireworks peacefully, as suggested by Mr Tinning of the Lancaster Fireworks Factory in the Citizen (October 30) to stop moaning among themselves and start grumbling where it will count.

We must all press hard for the so-called season of this anti-social and intrusive 'trendy thing to do' to be limited to strictly controlled displays, with the organisers obliged to make clear to all householders likely to be effected at exactly what times the displays will start and end.

We must write to our MPs, the city and county councils, noise abatement campaigners, animal welfare groups and carers groups. And when these explosions occur after 11pm we should also log them with the police.

Even the least assertive of us surely must be entitled to some quality of life.

Barbara, Bolton-le-Sands (name and address supplied).
